Just got my first shotgun, a Mossberg 500. This one to be exact http://www.mossberg.com/product/shotguns-pump-action-mossberg-500-500-all-purpose/50120
I got this at a decent price of $175 Brand new. I don't plan on keeping this barrel since I plan on making a hd gun out of it.
I don't hunt so I have no interest in keeping it. How much do you think I can sell the barrel for?
I plan on putting an 18 1/2" barrel and replacing the stock and forend.
Quick question about the forend, do I need a new action slide tube in order to replace the forend as well? I remember reading about post 2008 models that are welded on?
Something like this?

Thanks a bunch.

Welcome to the forum from NY and congrats on your new Mossy.
Great price!

As far as the forend goes you need to find out which one you have first. Below is a chart to show you the different kinds.

Welcome from MI!!

Welcome aboard.

Looks like mossy has you steered in the right direction on your forend. We've got a great group of folks here on Mossberg Owners and the atmosphere is very laid back. The only thing we like better than discussing each other's guns is lookin at 'em, so we're lookin forward to pics of your 500. Take a look around and feel free to post up pics of any other firearms you own in the various sub-forums. You'll find that we're into a lot more than just Mossberg around here. Jump in on the conversation anywhere and let us know if you have any other questions.

Enjoy the site!

Ugggh... third shift.

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll really like it here.

So here it is. Looks like it's the first demonstration shown.
This forend looks like it's on there pretty good. I'll have to find a video on youtube to give me a hand.

So what kind of price would you guys think is reasonable to sell my barrel at?
Not trying to profit, just replace my barrel.
I'd like to get an 18 1/2" breacher barrel but I can't seem to find those for anything under $200 on ebay.
I seen ones without the breacher for around $100.

Be careful when buying the breacher barrel.

Even though they still use a model 500 receiver, several factory model 500 breacher configurations use a 590A1 heavy breacher barrel with a 590/835 style mag tube. You will not be able to use any of these barrels without replacing your mag tube assembly.

There are model 500 breachers that use the standard 500 style mag tubes and barrels. The 18.5" breacher barrel with the gloss blue finish that should match your current set-up is Mossberg part #90018. It should retail for right at $150. Your best bet is to call Mossberg and place an order with them directly...

(800) 363-3555

Good luck and keep us posted...

Just sold my 28" barrel for $120 & I ordered a standard 18.5" barrel (90015)
Will update with pics when it comes in.

Now it's time to pick out a stock and forend.
