590A1 US Service Model

ralston

.22LR
Been looking for a Mossberg 590A1 with the bayonet and have been striking out everywhere at local stores and online. Just came across a used 590A1 US Service Model #50676 for $475. I'm strongly considering it. It comes with the 20" parkerized barrel but no ghost ring sights and no bayonet. I shoot long guns lefty and love the safety on the Mossbergs.

Can anyone talk me out of this purchase? Pros/Cons please with this model. I think I'm going to be happy if I buy this.

Thanks in advance

My Baby...Model #51663...just got the heat shield, will be putting it on this week.

I'd buy it. I used to have the 20" but sold it a few or several years ago. You will like it, and they're difficult to find for much less than that price.

You can use either an M7 or M9 as is pictured above.

I myself would wait and get what I want...not rush into a used item just to have it.

My Baby brand new was $499 OTD at a PA gun show in 2014...

Have you looked at Grab-A-Gun? They usually have a large variety of Mossbergs in 590A1 models. I found my 18½" with GRS there. Alas, no bayonet lugs on the 18½" model tho.

If it did, I believe it would be another model. A bayonet doesn't come with them, and I personally wouldn't want one. If you do, they are cheap on Ebay unless you get picky about manufacturers. Shop for sling swivels and a sling, too.

Talk you out of getting one? Hard to do. It's the only one I wanted. Everyone with a 590 thinks they have a 50676. They don't, though. If you have a real TALO special edition shotgun, you win. Unbeatable features. All business, no stupid. Just my opinion.

If you absolutely MUST. An M9 or M11 don't seem as bayonetty to me as an M7. I'm old, though. I would lean toward an M7 if I wanted to get stabby.

If you want to slice things and cut the neighbor's fence, I guess the 9 and 11 are for you. Seriously, I wonder what kind of knife they are? Usually, a bayonet is a lousy knife. They tend to be made of whatever falls off when they make other things.

Enjoy though. You aren't getting it for me.

In some countries, they always affix bayonets because they believe the bayonet guides the projectile by pointing the way. Those same people always elevate the rear sight to maximum, because they observed that when people were shooting at things far away they elevated the sights. The assumption was that raising the sights gave the firearm more power. It's all about perspective.

Took it apart cleaned it and lubed it. Then I went ahead and put the Magpul stock and forend on it along with the sling mount (I'm a lefty). Need to find a strap wrench to remove the magazine tube and install the Wolff spring and SBE hi viz follower. To those that I've angered by doing this prior to shooting it, I hang my head in shame. To those that dig the new look, I pat myself on the back. I really want to shoot this thing. Need to find a decent spot to shoot it.

Bayonet is 100% necessary. It screams America!!
