Officer Betty Shelby had a confrontation last September with a man who was standing in the middle of a Tulsa street . His vehicle was also in the middle of the street. The man was acting like he was high, which turned out to be the case.
In the ensuing moments officer Shelby thought the man was going for a gun in the vehicle and shot him. He did not survive. The victim was a black man, officer Shelby is white.
Before the police finished their investigation the DA filed manslaughter charges ,three days into the investigation .My personal feeling is he caved to the demands of a small but vocal group in town.
Anyway, after a trial that lasted 10 days , including jury selection, officer Shelby was found not guilty. The jury consisted of men and women of which I believe 5 were black . The justice system worked.
