I have a new Turkey model. I have noticed the ammo compatibility issues already. But I will try some Remington Express 20 Gauge Ammo 2 3/4" #3 Buckshot 20 Pellets to see if they function.

I have some 1 1/4 oz high brass #6 shot rounds that cycle great and are powerful.

Mostly using for coyote and bobcat and dog protection.
 
My Thug don't like pansy ammo ; it runs flawlessly on 3" or Buckshot. It shoots the Rem. # 3 Buck real good
 
My apologies for the belated welcome. I missed it when you originally posted.

Yeah, a lot of semi's don't care a lot about weak target loads.

Sometimes once they get broken in they do better with them.

If you are determined to use a steady diet of low brass, you may consider shortening your action spring a little at a time until you are satisfied with it.

I don't know where you'd source a replacement if you went overboard trimming it, other than factory direct.
