Re: porting
Porting a shotgun will reduce the muzzle climb and muzzle flash.
Rossignol has posted a couple videos of some test shooting he did. It is amazing how the muzzle climb is almost eliminated and the muzzle flash reduced.
I work for Vang Comp. We've installed our sights on NUMEROUS 590s.
The predrilled & tapped holes on the receiver do not line up with the screw holes in our sight however.
On some shotguns, you'll actually see a step, or abrupt taper. Others use a gradual taper, to form the forcing cone.
If you were to use a bore gauge, you would see it.
Mossbergs are known for their rather generous bores. We don't get as much "meat" from them when we bore them.

I knew a guy who was a reloading moron. He was...
Just after Winchester pulled Black Talons off the market, a guy I know was detained for "possession of prohibited ammunition."
He was stopped by an Officer from one of our area Police Depts, for having a headlight out. Since AZ had just implemented Concealed Carry, the Officer asked if he was...
We use the XS Dovetail Tritium Dot quite a lot. In fact, my personal 590 has the factory GRS and a Dovetail XS Tritium Dot front sight. I'll put our sights on it eventually.
Measure the height of the front sight, just the insert. Contact XS and tell them you need a Dovetail Tritium Dot of that...
