590A1 Heatshield (Heat Shield) Advice

Newbie here from SF,

I would like to install a heatshield on my 590A1 with 18" barrel and ghost-ring sites. I've looked through the existing threads, but i am hoping there might be some more current and more general information out there.

The options i have seen are:

Mossberg factory heatshield (not my favorite)

Black Aces Tactical RB7M (http://www.blackacestactical.com/remington-500590-lon500590.html#!product-list/c1srd)

Does anyone have any personal experience, recommendations, other models or general advice for a newbie?

As far as we know the ATI Halo heatshield will not fit the 590A1 heavy barrel. As far as a basic heatshield goes, the Mossberg factory 590A1 heatshield part # 16335P is your best bet. AimPro Tactical makes one as well, but they have been extremely difficult to come by for a while now.

As a matter of personal opinion, the other three options you linked look like overkill. The Black Aces and Aimtech pieces, while of great quality, serve more as a means to reconfigure your shotgun rather than simply shield you from a hot barrel. I have no experience with the Vortex piece, but at first glance it looks like a highly overpriced version of the ATI Halo.

I guess it all comes down to what you are looking to accomplish by adding a heatshield to your shotgun. There is plenty of debate as to the need for one. I can tell you that in all the thousands of rounds I've sent down range I have never grabbed a hot barrel. If your intention is purely aesthetic, then knock yourself out...
 
Thanks! I thought all 590A1s had the heavy-walled barrel, but according to the Mossberg official site, it appears to be an option. Do you know if the 590A1 18" barrel is heavy-walled, regular or optionally either?
 
Mossberg's website is a wealth of mis-information.

ALL 590A1 models, no matter what length or configuration, feature the heavy walled barrel...

Hmmmm. The ATI customer support rep specifically told me that the ATI Halo would fit the 590A1. I asked her to double-check, she went away for a few seconds and came back and said that it absolutely did. I'm wondering if i should cancel my order before it ships (which is why i'm doing the additional research).
 
Nah, if ATI told you it will fit then it will fit.

I trust their word more than my memory...
