People have said that "as California goes so goes the nation", but they also say "what goes around comes around".
It seems now that the California Democrats, who elected handsome rich white Gavin Newsom instead of the handsome Chicano candidate & LA mayor Tony Villaraigosa, are trying to turn the tables.
Newsome is being branded in the newspapers as a crazy man. They're doing this because the greedy backers of the California bullet train project see 77 billion dollars Vanishing from their pockets.
Gavin has declared that we are only going to build a limited version of the bullet train and we can't afford the whole thing nor do we need it.
Nobody is talking about the geology & engineering obstacles of building this train that no one has solved yet. By putting a price on such things in advance you are just fooling yourself.
Of course no government project is typically finished within the quoted budget so no one expect this one to be either. But it seems that we're going to pay five times as much for one third of what they expected to build.
He really displeased the Deep Pockets, and his political fortunes spun overnight.
It's amazing to see how hard they hit on Gavin right away for this and for his congenial meeting with Donald Trump over the wildfires and disaster situation.
The other thing that seems to be unwinding is Kamala Harris, our former Attorney General and future presidential candidate.
She was probably cheerleading Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has New Deal plan until forced by reporters to backtrack on the fact that she's not actually a democratic socialist.
It's also very difficult for this woman who formerly prosecuted many drug crimes in the state of California to now support legalizing marijuana in the state.
If you saw her on TV admitting her previous crimes it's pretty hard to believe her about anything.
And even that she lied on and was caught right away. Either that or her marijuana fueled memories are not in line with real dates and events. Anyhow, her chance of being president is pretty much screwed, and her support base in the state of California seems to be a little shakier.
Even more so, being how she is tied to the plans of Gavin Newsom.
Meanwhile Gavin Newsom has pulled back National Guard troops from guarding the border so that he can hunt for illegal marijuana Farms.
The claim is that the state is not making the kind of taxes they should be making off of legalized marijuana because there are lots of illegal growers in the state fueling the black market.
What no one says is that the taxes aren't coming in, because most of the cities in California were allowed to vote on an individual level, and they did not allow legalized marijuana sales.
I live in one of those towns. You can go down the Main Street in Fort Bragg and find open marijuana shops but you will not see that in Clovis or any of the near towns, because the people on the city council's do not support this. Neither does local law enforcement, who would be forced to deal with the situation when it turned ugly.
Meanwhile way more illegal aliens are in California than anybody will admit, they are doing absolutely nothing to stop them when they are not forced to do something.
This situation has existed since I came to California in the mid seventies.
But maybe now the tide will change when people feel the pain of our new taxes.
The Trump tax cut didn't happen in Calif for most. We lost our state tax deduction on the 1040.
