A fake store-front sting operation in Milwaukee aimed at taking guns and drugs off of the streets had three agency weapons, including a select-fire M4, stolen from an agent's SUV while he was in a coffee shop...
ATF's Milwaukee sting operation marred by mistakes, failures
One of the firearms was recovered when it was BOUGHT BACK from an individual for $1400! Yup, our tax dollars paid to buy back a STOLEN ATF DUTY WEAPON from a THIEF!
This "operation" is so full of holes it's ridiculous. Agents vacated the rented building following the incedent and left the landlord with $15,000 in damages and unpaid utility bills. An ATF attorney has ordered the landlord to stop contacting the agency or he will be arrested for 'harassing' or 'threatening' federal agents.
Of the few arrests made it has been determined that three of the defendants were the wrong people, one of which was serving a prison sentence in another state at the time ATF agents claimed he sold them drugs. Despite reports of "enormous success", a U.S. DOJ Inspector General report shows that these type stings have had little to no effect on gun related crime in their respective areas, citing that the agencies statistics are based on "insufficient data and faulty comparisons". In the Milwaukee operation, agents puposefully chose an area of the city where violent crime had been on a steady decline since 2008 in order to stack the stats in their favor. Residents blame the botched operation for a recent increase in crime in the area and have suspected that agent were buying goods stolen from the their neighborhood.
Yes folks, these are the people responsible for enforcing our current gun laws. Anyone questioning why 'gun control' is ineffective need look no further than the incompetence of the agency charged with its enforcement...
