After you fell a tree with that new axe, turn to the FSS axe for limbing the branches and bucking the smaller diameters. It goes thru limbs and wood like butter and won't tire you out!

Well like i said i kinda hate Axing, BUT if zombies drink all petrol and the grid goes down and whatever else horridness may occur preventing me from using a chainsaw, im convinced now a good true Axe is smart money in the ole oh shit quiver ☺

This FSS axe cuts faster than some chainsaws and so much more packable into the field.

Five-inch limbs take just a few strokes.

Had a couple minutes yesterday before supper so i decided put him back together. I cleaned everything up and wittled "shoulder" down a little bit more as suggestions. Then i went off the reservation ☺ i wipe handle with damp cloth and inside of head, i smeared a thin layer of Gorilla glue and the place handle in and used garage floor to tamp on sternly ! The damp cloth on wedge again Gorilla light thin coat and hammered it in like a German virgin. We shall see how this holds up but so far zero gaps feels very solid. Handle potrudes out of top of head some should i trim or leave alone ??20180711_200312.jpg 20180711_200337.jpg

I don't know how well gorilla glue will hold up to chopping, but we always used to let them soak for a while in a tub of scalding hot water. That would soak into the wood and cause it to swell.

After we got the ax out, we'd oil it up, especially around where the handle would come through the ax head and it would usually hold after that for a while. Repeat as necessary.

The handle and wedge fit very tight now after trimming as nitesite suggested probably good enough, i think the glue just a bit of extra filler and sticky ? Not sure but we gonna find out

DJ~ It is supposed to stick out proud at the top.

Good luck.

If it loosens again we'll take the next step: a new handle and wedge.

Well i couldnt stand it so I attacked !!!!
I believe we are good to go for now its pretty dang solid.
Now the strokes vs chainsaw ? Well the first pick is when im at my peak 40 strikes in il say it does the job well but id not be gassed covered in sweat from saw. However, maybe more fstigued from toting it ? As for speed if ya handed me a running saw no contest but if i gotta get gas mix oil and fight the cantankerous sob to get it started who knows ??? Il say again i believe a good axe or 2 is a must have !! And I never felt that way in past i accept the cool-aid so how strokes many to break thru i dont know got gassed lost track. But head is real solid and axe is still quite sharp. Thanks again @nitesite for a great tip and push in exploring this tool better. Il repeat mossberg forum i have picked up so many great tidbits here, its a great place for old dudes who know everything to actually learn some stuff thank yall20180712_181559.jpg 20180712_181611.jpg 20180712_182240.jpg 20180712_182251.jpg

It can exhaust me but I sometimes like the feeling of being Paul Bunyan.

DJ~ it will go faster with fewer chops if you widen that V from the very first dozen well-placed chops, maybe to over a foot wide for a felled tree that large. A narrow V is slower to cut and takes more swings and energy, but a wider V throws huge chips early on so as you go deeper and further in to it you are still removing wood.

LOOK in Pic #2 HOW FRIGGIN SHARP THAT FORGED BLADE IS!!!!!!!!!

Ok the head has held great since redo spent last two days clearing some areas using ye old hand tools. They a simpler to carry up hillside and easy to start . Havent swung the swing blade in years and im glad lol but it will do some work. To all those who show up around the rut, climb in ready made stand over a nice food plot all prepared fir your arrival. Ummm enjoy but kiss my A#% it was hard work and dont forget it !!!! Tips accepted. Back to the Ax its still one of best purchases ive ever made also a shout out to those fisker 28" loping shears ive had em e few years and they are 100% the best not to small not to big to reach up or down to ground good leverage they are indispensable tool for me. Enjoy have a awesome day back to work foe me.20180905_115228.jpg 20180905_115448.jpg 20180905_123442.jpg 20180905_123908.jpg

I'm going to throw axes and drink beer tomorrow night. My brothers buddy opened up a place....grand opening too....

http://www.montananightsaxthrowing.com/

Oh man.....this is gunna be a blast....
Sounds awesome fun

That said the smarter half is home today, i read to her she looked across top of her glasses at me and said "men are idiots they keep the ER clogged up" and went back to her coffee LOL

I want to throw axes now. I saw Johns post in the tomahawk thread with the Estwing double bit axe. Not a traditional throwing axe but I like it. I want one. Or at least a tomahawk. But something I can learn to throw would be cool.

I've never thrown axes but I got to go to The Lumberjacks Jamboree up in Oakhurst and I watched them throw axes at beer cans stuck in a log.

As soon as you saw the beer squirt the crowd went wild.

I also watched a wild axe throw that ricocheted from the top of the target stand and flew over and beyond the safety netting, into the dirt area where they were escorting the ticket holders into the bleachers. Fortunately by then traffic had died down to nothing and no one got hit.

But imagine buying a ticket to the lumberjacks ball and you're just standing there in line by the gate, and the next thing you know an ax comes flying out into the parking lot!
