Bullet Type Load Data

honkey

.270 WIN
I just ordered a mold for .45 with intentions of using it for a Springfield XD. I was looking at Alliant load data and saw a recipe for 230 gr round nose bullets. Would it be ok to substitute round nose bullets for truncated cone bullets of the same weight or would this cause a problem? I am most likely getting the gun on Tuesday and I was hoping to load some ammo to take to the range by the weekend. Here is the recipe I am looking at...

You should be ok as long as the bullets are the same weight. Just be sure the overall cartridge length for that bullet is correct. I use 1.200 OCL for both lead RN and copper plated RN bullets in my XD 45.

You might want to check out the Hodgdon reloading data online for pistol cartridges, really a good sight with pistol, shotgun and rifle loading data. http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

I use a lot of the shotgun powders to load 9MM, 40 S&W and 45 ACP. Very clean burning with a variety of different loads.

Would you like me to provide you with any published load data I have from several manuals I have on hand?

So you are thinking of substituting TCFP 230 instead of LRN 230s??

If you could, that would be great! I never bought a manual since I have always just stuck to the loads Alliant has published on their website. I ended up with a Lee six cavity mould- TCFP 230 grain. The XD I have is a 5" barrel.
