Cleaning Kit

Uteman25

.410
So I just purchased my first shotgun (Mav 88), and was about to venture out to Wally World to pick up some cleaning supplies. Before I do however I was wondering what you guys recommend as far kits go, seems like more bang for the buck vs buying separately? I did find a Boresnake on Ebay for around $10 so I will probably pick that up, in the mean time though I wanted to pick up the solvents, rods, brushes etc via a kit. I was looking at this one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Winchester-99 ... t/14644732

Or maybe this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hoppes-9-Rifle- ... 538wt_1037

Any one have any recommendations for a good value kit to pick up? Thanks :)

I bought this kit...

but it works better for me since i have shotgun rifle and pistols that need cleaned. it also has a mat that you can use to protect your bench and give the gun something soft to lay on. it comes with quite a few things. but pick up an extra bag of patches there isn't very many in this kit.

Yea that one looks nice, was hoping to keep it under $15-20 for now. Also this is my only weapon and will be most likely for some time so a kit more tailored to SG's would be more applicable I think. I'm heading over to Walmart now so I'll see what they have in stock!!

I recently got a Winchester cleaning kit from Wal-mart for about $15 and while it has all the rods and brushes you'll need, be aware it does have a few patches but contains no solvent or gun oil. You have to buy those separately.

If you only plan to own the one forearm, I would say that getting the parts seperately might be the better answer. If you plan at all to move into other calibers, than a kit would be the beter purchase.

Well I took her apart for the first time today and got rid of that gunk that was caked on it. Taking it part and putting it back together was much simpler than I thought :) So I did end up buying the cheapy Walmart kit but now would like to eventually get a kit that comes with a bag/case. I also picked up some Hoppes #9 and CLP. Now does leaving a little of the CLP on the parts act as a lubricant like the Hoppes Oil would? Or should I pick up the Oil as well to use? Thanks!

Yep, CLP stands for Clean Lubricate Protect so it will do it all for you. I use it and have no issues with it but there are internet gunsmiths out there that will say it's crap. There is a thread around here some where discussing the differant types of cleaning and lubricant products I believe.
