difference barrel/mag tube

hi, im buying a 500A 12ga and wanted to ask some questions?
can I buy a 20ga barrel and mag tube to fit my 500A/
will the bolt be the same?
I know what the size difference 12ga to 20ga shells.
this is short because I have some 20ga shells to shoot...
or I might buy a single barrel 20ga shotgun..

I think the bolt on the 12 and 20 are different too.

By the time that you bought all the parts to convert it, you probably could buy a good single shot 20. Mossberg 500 barrels alone usually start around $80 used on ebay and go up from there.

I'm pretty sure 12ga and 20ga are different animals, 20ga having narrower everything: bolt, receiver, mag tube, barrel, etc. There might be some common parts but I wouldn't know. The pistol grip or stock from a 12ga may "fit" but stands proud on the 20ga if I'm not mistaken. John has the right idea and this is the perfect excuse to get another gun! :D You wouldn't be the only one to buy a gun because you had the ammo first... (as I raise my hand ;))

PS: I had a 70s vintage Remmy Wingmaster 20ga that had the ability to be converted to 12ga with tube, bolt and barrel although I never tried (see John's answer again).
