There have been 2 different sizes of screws that have been used over the years.
I think the current ones are 8-40.
Anything made 1997 and prior is 6-48
Technically, the screw holes on the receiver is for installing a scope mount.
If you have a vent rib barrel, it may line up OK with the front bead, but if you have a standard (non-vent rib) barrel, the rear bead will sit up way higher than the front which would cause you to shoot high on everything.
Here's a Charles Daly Turkish import that I recently tapped for a scope mount. Turned out really good. It shoots like a dream.
