How to you remove this to install an new one, my swivel stub broke off in this one and Mossberg is sending me a new one but how do I get the old one off. Thanks for the information.

There should be a barbed O-ring of some sort on the receiver side, you can press it out or try to unscrew it while holding the O-ring.

HOWEVER, they could have changed things from when I owned my mid 80's 500

Number 16 retaining ring.

They sell a special tool for removing that ring.
I have one but when I cannot find it (Every time I need it)
I use a thin bladed flat head screw driver pushed up in there to hold the retainer ring in place
as I unscrew the barrel nut from the barrel.
Works every time!
It should come off no problem like that.
I have done it a dozen times that way.

Here you go! Easy Peasy and you can reuse the ring if you choose to re-install it. Insert jeweler's screwdriver as shown, then unscrew the takedown screw from the clip... Note the driver fits tight enough the clip holds it in place.

PS: also note where I choose to mount my sling swivel...
