Inspecting New 590 #50670

I have a 590 model 50670 on its way to my FFL. I’ve read horror stories about Quality Control just curious what should I be looking for before taking ownership upon inspecting the gun?

My Mossberg 590 Flex came from the factory with a slightly malformed elevator.

The shotgun functioned, but over time the elevator became so malformed I could lay it down on a flat surface and with the action forward, set a AA battery positive post into the recessed pivot post hole and it would stay in that position, upside down, the top of the battery flush to the receiver.

Eventually - actually a couple of years later - I documented it and contacted Mossberg. They sent me a new, not-bent elevator for free.

I'd recommend breaking it down in the shop if the FFL will allow. Place the elevator on a flat surface and touch the corners. If the opposite side lifts off the surface, it's bent.
