The Vario combines individual efficiency with the simplest possible handling. The technology it uses consists of three filter levels: a high-performance glass fiber filter, a ceramic pre-filter that can be adjusted individually according to the cloudiness of the water, and active charcoal for eliminating odors. Anyone who needs up to two liters of drinking water per minute can use the glass fiber and active charcoal filter. If the water is extremely cloudy, the ceramic pre-filter can be fitted in a moment in order to extend the service life of the glass fiber filter. The Vario is compatible with most standard outdoor bottles and hydration bladders.

Had a chance to use the Vario this past weekend on a two day hiking trip...

All I can say is that it works like a charm. Used it several times to fill my 1L bottle as well as my 6L MSR Dromedary bag once we set up camp. The mouth on both the bottle and the bladder screwed right into the bottom of the Vario and filled up super fast with the two-way pump. Took about 15-20 seconds to fill a 1L bottle and it filled the 6L bladder in about two minutes. The water tasted great and was crystal clear. Couple other guys on the trip brought gravity or squeeze filters, but it wasn't long before I was filling up their bottles too. The Vario will have a permanent place in my pack from now on...
