The Spartan is STI's base model and can be found for a bit under $700. Their other models get significantly more expensive. The Springer in that pic is a 1911-A1 Mil-Spec that my wife bought me for our anniversary a couple years ago...

Excellent pictures! I just ordered this for my soon to be 500! I didn't want more than 4 rounds simply because of weight and I believe it's too much so to speak... 4 is perfect and I can still grab the gun.. if I can't take care of the threat in 9 shots than there is a problem in my mind... I'm letting the threat come into the LOCKED bedroom while my wife is calling the police..etc.

Question, is this two pieces? IE the shell holder is held onto the plate? I have carbon fiber sheet panel that I want to use and make because I don't like the large gap that you see with the 4 shell holder... but that's a small thing honestly...

I got the mesa for $39 and that included free shipping! Excellent price considering everyhwere else has been $61 or so...

I'll post pics once I get everything.

How are those VangComp saddles holding up? Anyone still using them?

What gap? The only "gap" I have seen with any of the 4 shell saddle or my 6 shell, is right where the receiver begins to curve in towards the top. Unless I am speaking of the wrong spot. ~~~ upon review of the above photos I see what gap you are speaking of, that is a non issue in my opinion, as the below stated foam can easily take care of that and its only about a 1/8" "gap"

The saddles are shipped with a few washers for the rear of the mount where the trigger pin is replaced to ad some support at the rear. Also they send special cut foam backing for the face of the saddle that would go up against the receiver. Blue Lock Tite is a must on the screw that goes through the ejector, and on the screws that hold the actual saddle to the mounting plate.

Just my $0.02 :) I'll get some pictures of mine to post as I said earlier!!!

Edited to ad photo and answer my own question:

Here is one I have from when I built my shotgun up about a week ago, better pics to come!

Sorry I don't mean gap like between the reciever and shell holder I meant to say the "blank" space of a 4 shell holder compared to the 6 shell holder... I 'd like if they would have cnetered the 4 shell holder so that they weren't all pushed to the front if that makes sense..lol Nothing major just a looks type of thing.

Hey Nigel, yep. It is two pieces. What is cool about the shells being pushed forward is that you can use the Mesa receiver mounted sling loop. I was going to put mine on there but the bolt was 1000th too big and I popped the threads out trying to force it.....but I am loving the way it carries in the traditional mount spots

Ahhh! I see what you are saying now! I think it was strategically placed to be inline for a tactical reload from tge side saddle. Thats what i think could have influenced the design. Still a great product! :)

Welp just got my mesa 4 shell holder, and the stupid rubber insert is black and not the new white one...arg!

I sent mesa an email asking for the newer white version,., hope they pull through!

Other than that, looks like a sound piece. Definitely making a carbon fiber back plate for it.. should be a pretty easy design, and look good! I'll post pics once I'm done tracing the outline and then cutting it.

You should have got the white in the package. Mine came with the black installed. I put in the white because the black was too soft and my hand loads tore it up. The harder white is good for me. I had some factory Rio star slugs that functioned great with the black tube

+1 with what Oli said! One should be installed and the other in the packaging, if not they will gladly send you replacements! They have sent me numerous bolts and nuts every time i lose them

That's a pretty sweet idea! I think Oli or LES has a vest that has these velcro ones on his M4 mag pouches. Really Sweet!

EDIT: Well there we have it! LES does! haha

A lighter gun is earier to point quickly and sidesaddle ammo adds lots of weight.

That is why I won't be adding ammo storage to my gun.

I prefer having an open box of shells next to the bed.

If I am going out, extras in my right jacket pocket work for me.

Besides, if I am going to have more stuff, I would rather have a small back up gun nearby or in my pocket in case of a jam. (.45 American Derringer)

Hard plastic can easily break .. especially in cold temperatures. You accidentally drop that SG, or something bump that plastic shell holder it can easily snap .. even when removing a shell. Which is why I went with the elastic RCS moduloader system. I just don't trust hard plastic on guns.

I seriously doubt that you will notice the additional weight with the extra ammo in the event of need. Your adrenalin will be pumping. But .. you do not want to run out of ammo while scanning your home (away from your bed) possibly faced with more than one BG. My shotgun is lighter weight after I replaced the stock with the bantam 12" synthetic stock. No sling on it .. not necessary in the home, but good sights like the Ghost Ring sights will definitely be a benefit. I have them on order.

Um .. a derringer for back up? Not me .. I have a Glock 19 with a light, or either my M&P9c or M&P Shield with Trijicon HD night sights not even at arms reach of my bed. I want stopping power and enough of it.
