    Just before the the Battle of Thermopylae, There was an exchange between King Leonidas and Xerxes, The exchange is cited in a collection of sayings by Leonidas (480 BC): "When Xerxes wrote, 'Hand over your arms,' Leonidas wrote in reply, "Come and take them." The phrase is participial, whereas its literal translation would be approximately "having come, take!".
