hi everyone, just new here at mossbergowners...just want to show my build of my 590 14 inch shotgun that ive posted here in a local forum of ours..will also update my build as i go along..thanks everyone!

After two months of waiting, last friday i finally received a call from my GS that the yellow copy of my temporary approved License, PTT and other pertinent docs were ready..hence, even without my FA ID card (hello werefast, where's my FA ID Card?) i got my Mossberg M590 with 14 inch barrel which i got for an unbelievably low price.... :D

here it is out of the box:

special thanks to sir tarsier for the mossy heatshield, sir hoc for the UTG top rail and sir jp1 for the fiber optic front sight which he has generously given me for FREE.... :D

with my trusty CZ P01:

the long wait is over...i am about to begin my mossy build project...since i got this shotgun in a bargain price, i hope to proceed with the build in a 'budget friendly' manner, yet be able to have and enjoy the HD shotgun i want... :)

Did a function check and full disassembly for the first time:

IMG_9714_zps49dc116c.jpg

First mod i did was install the UTG top rail (Thanks to sir hoc)...the install here was pretty straightforward since drilled and tapped receivers of mossberg right out of the box...

i inquired here at our local GS for a MAKO railed forend but its out of stock...i wanted to have a railed forend and i couldnt wait....so i took matters in my own hands..

picatinny rails i got:

using the stock forend started making a flat surface for the rails:

the plastic material of the original mossberg forearm was really tough, thus when screws where placed i didnt need to put small bolts on the back side...it was solidly locked in place...saved me time in figuring out how to put the bolts at the back... :)

Even though i was of large build, i found the length of pull too long...my wife also wanted to us and shoot this...telescoping stocks and other options are very limited in our country, and i am also waiting for availability of the mossberg version of the magpul sga stock, i decided to cut the stock to fit my needs... ;)

marked 1 1/2 inches sa stock:

updates on the build...

heatshield install...(special thanks to sir tarsier of ppf forums) when it finally dawned on me tuesday night that the rains would still not let up, the urge to install this on my own increased by the hour...maybe it was a combination of factors of boredom, anticipation, excitement, and frustration that made me bolder to do it...

After studying youtube videos on DIY heatshield installations, i was confident (i hoped :? ) that i can do it....

total shotgun length vs heatshield

IMG_9764_zps4037f8f0.jpg

length close up...barrel 14 inches, heatshield 13 3/4th inches...

IMG_9765_zps84d82b4e.jpg

another close up shot, forgive the large dirty toe sticking out...hehehe...

IMG_9766_zps6fcbaee9.jpg

need to chop off close to 2 inches....

IMG_9767_zpsb633aaa5.jpg

IMG_9768_zps7dbc0566.jpg

masked off areas of contact so as not to damage the barrel:

IMG_9779_zps4eb0d8d9.jpg

IMG_9780_zps1056e4ad.jpg

cut it off to the desired length...drilled the 3 spot welds at the rear barrel band to be used later on....ill leave the welding and reparkerizing to a professional gunsmith..

did i manage to do it?

yup i think i did... :)

update on the build..had the fiber optic front sight (special thnx to sir jp1 of ppf forums kudos to u sir...) installed by a professional gunsmith...this has to be silver soldered..

a little background on the sights of shotgun, originally this had stock ghost ring sights of mossberg..the original owner removed it and he installed clipped on fiberoptic sights..i personally wanted ghost ring sights installed...he promised to find the rear ghost ring sight and give it to me, but unfortunately the front sight that was removed he cant remember where he placed...hence i had tong front sig find another front sight.

i commissioned one of our best gunsmiths, mr tony olinares to do this..he was to install the front sight, welding of barrelband of previously cut heatshield and its final installation, as well as parkerized refinish of heatshield and barrel....

given by sir jp1 na sight....

thats all for now...will post pics of my DIY mods once finished...

Build Update:

i am able to turn my attention again to my mossberg 590 budget build...:)

DIY hi visibility magazine follower:

the stock follower was black in color, so visual inspection was hard if ever...initially planned to color it either neon orange or neon green... ;) was just about to, but prepared the follower muna by using fine grit sand paper, glo metal polish and some elbow grease...upon finishing, it was really shiny and made much more of a difference than the stock black....will be using it as is, pag nagsawa na ska ung planned spray painting it to shocking green or orange  anyway, here it is...sorry no step by step process just used my wifes ipad to picture it finished  ...

image_zps77d5f40f.jpg

DIY Cheekrest:

My initial plan was to commision someone to make an adjustable cheekrest from kydex, then another was to buy some kydex and make my own kydex cheekrest...until sometime last month i saw the black foam backing of my old mousepad come off..an idea came to my mind..using double automotive adhesive 3m tape i had, and cutting my desired pattern, i just made my own cheekrest... cons-its not adjustable (its a shotgun not a rifle tho :) ) pros- zero cost... :D sorry again for the crappy pic..:)

image_zps57aa537a.jpg

Improvised light/flashlight:

I bought the flashlight clamp a while ago, but it was intended for 1 inch flashlights...i had 3 but all were small edc 1 AA flashlights..Now using some spare rubber pad trimmed of from my cheekrest, i was able to wrap by less than an inch QUARK QPA Tactical and use it in my flashlight clamp! :D at least my shutgun has a light already, til i can buy a nitecore SRT7 REVENGER that will surely fit the clamp.. ;) )

Build Update:

DIY Hi-Visibility Magazine Follower:

Finally was able to paint the follower bright orange.....was going to use sna initially a flourescent orange/green color- but upon seeing a sample, it was a little transparent and u need to coat a white base first....the 2 coats of paint might mess the tolerances between the magazine follower and the magazine tube...i taped up the sides of the follower so as not to mess the tolerance...so wat was coated with the paint is the 'face' of the follower...going to see if the paint will hold up to the abuse of shell reloading...if the paint chips or peels off, i have a can to use and i might respray it when i buy a clear lacquer one over the orange paint to make it a little tougher....so far, ok nman, and it serves purpose: it aids me in visibly seeing if the magazine is empty...:D

before (tho ive done some work here by making this 'stainless' already) :

Very nice, thanks for the pics.

I love the 590 platform and am also a big fan of the Beretta tip-up pocket guns. I'm proud to say I have a 3032 Tomcat, a 21a Bobcat, a 950bs Minx, and a 950bs Jetfire in the collection...

hi sir lazy eyed sniper...the tomcat also came from the original owner of the mossberg 590..both guns i was able to acquire at a very good price...the reason the owner was offloading some of his firearms is becoz of the new crazy firearms law enacted in our country..i envy your 2nd amendment rights there in the US..and i envy you have access to great mossberg aftermarket accessories...wish some of our gun stores would import more accessories here...anyway, its the reason i have this budget build in mind...

wow u have quite the collection of mouseguns there...feel free to post pics here also sir if you want :)

Great job!
I love DIY projects on guns, especially shotguns!
I am real interested in how that follower is going to hold up to abuse.
Please keep us updated.
Thanks

Welcome to Mossberg owners forum.

Nice scattergun.

LTB45: Thank you for appreciating my efforts..will do update on the follower regarding the paint durability...if it proves to be not so durable and the paint do comes off, i might retain its 'stainless' guise..

John A: thank you for the welcome..i appreciate it..:)

Havoc!! A Great pictorial and thanks for the write up of your DIY 590 project!! Innovative and practical!!

You appear to be prepared!!

Nice work on that 590! While we're certainly above many nations when it comes to firearms freedoms... I sure wish short barreled shotguns weren't regulated... I'd have one in a heartbeat!

Scott M: Hi sir thank you for appreciating my humble efforts...ive been wanting a mossberg shotgun for the longest time..i am a lefty so the controls are just right...you see unlike there where you can buy a shotgun at walmart, here you can only buy thru authorized gunstores and in my case a registered private seller..landed cost here is 2x to 3x what youd pay for a shotgun there, plus accessories are really hard to come by..

i have 3 more mods id like to do, if its successful ill post it asap..:)

aksavanaman: yup maybe thats one aspect you could say we are more lucky, but then again, i dont think so: considering the cost of this shotgun new is relatively high in our country, beleive me when i say paying the 200 dollar SBS tax stamp is still a bargain...

Very nice Havoc21! Thanks for sharing the pictures. I have always liked the short barreled Mossberg's.
