( Partially reposted from an earlier thread.)
I had a pretty good time at the range today, but the plastic magazine follower in my Mossberg 464 bit the dust. I got it good and hot, with 15 shots in under 10 mins, and I think the combination of a hot gun and WD-40 anti-corrosion lube caused the plastic follower to swell, and it seized in the tube.
The culprit:
The rounds were just rattling around in the magazine tube loose, and I had to gravity feed the receiver by pointing the gun at the Moon and jacking the action. To get it out I had to remove the plug and stuff about 10 rounds up the tube until that finally forced it through.
I cleaned it up, deburred it and tried to stick it back in. It got about 1-inch and stuck fast. Permanently swollen from the solvent in that lube.
I'll probably buy the stainless steel aftermarket follower.
Anyhow before I gave up on it, I shot several targets, & my results were worse than normal.
It was pleasantly warm and there was virtually no wind today. All around, I shot poorly. All were shot at 50 yds from sand bags on a concrete bench.

Mossberg 464 Carbine
.30-30 170gr Winchester Super-X factory whitebox...
1.5" target, 5 shots, 2.9" group, so 5.8 moa. I did put one 1/2" from center.
6" target, 5 shots, 2.5" group, so 5 moa. Best Shot 0.4" off center.

Savage .22 semi auto "gill gun", now has Tasco 4X scope (not shown.)
Winchester Super-X 36grn hp white box.
15 shots, 6" target, rapid fire except the first shot
2" group, so 4 moa. first shot was the one touching the paster. Best shot 0.25" off center.
5 shots, slow fire. 1" target.
2" group, best shot .25" off.
( the odd mark was a staple)
5 shots, 50 yds slow fire. 1" target
By this time I had totally lost my concentration.
To clear my head I blasted away with the new Filipino 1911 clone .45 auto,
and the Croatian 9 millimeter XDS9 pistol. (Shown disassembled because this is the only pic I had ready.)
It was all 7yds rapid fire, and the targets reflected that. But the truth, is with those pistols I don't do that much better at 7yd slow fire.
The Gill gun and both pistols ran flawlessly, but while the 1911 fed the traditional round Federals 100% perfectly, it did not like the (much!) more expensive JHP Nozlers at all! This is the same experience I had when I loaded them into the original Italian magazine that came with the gun. But even the fancy Chip McCormick 10-round magazine did not feed the Nozlers.
It shot the Federals so well, I don't want to go messing with feed ramps at this point.
I posted my 10 pictures already so no Target shot, but basically I was able to put a full clip from either pistol inside a 6 inch circle at 7 yards, moderate to rapid fire.
