Broke the cherry on my new Patriot. Buck came out of the brush at 25 yards, scope set at 10 power with zero time to reset. Solid .270 hit, buck ran about 70 yards and piled up.
From now on scope will be set at lowest power!

Congratulations.

Fresh tender loin for Christmas. @Wo0-hoo

Where I hunt, it's so wooded and hilly that you can't get more than a 75 yard shot if your life depended on it.

That's why I use 1-4 and 1-5 and 2-6 scopes. And I usually leave them all the way down.

I like having the ability to zoom in if I wanted to, though I seldom do. Mostly only if I'm looking for a particular marking or to make sure it's the specific deer that I think it is.

My normal shot from blind to feeder is 143 yards. That's why (until now) I always turned the scope to highest power. Come to think of it, I almost always have time to fiddle with the scope power for the distant shot.
I learned a lesson with this one.
