Spiegel Model 42M

Headhunter2

.270 WIN

Well I lucked out again and ended up with a very dirty, neglected rifle, missing a few things and had a jamming bolt. All the parts missing or broken I had.
Took a while to clean up enough to know what I had. It is now clean enough to start a real clean up.
Now the other luck was someone mounted a Weaver scope and mount on it BUT drilled new holes in the mount instead of the receiver.

Its a .22 that Mossberg made for the Spiegel catalogue. As I understand 665 were made in 1940 and the early ones were not stamped with "s" ie S42M. Mine shows to be an early one. Oh and by the look of the bore it has done very little shooting. The fellow I got it from said it had stood in the back of his father's closet for at least 30 years. He does not remember it ever coming out until after his father passed..
