Thread Size Of Hole In Barrel Nut ??

Does anyone know the size of the thread in the tapped hole in the center of the barrel retaining nut on Mossberg 500 shotguns? I want to put a sling on mine, and I would rather not spend the $25.00 on another barrel retaining nut and all the rest, when all I need is the threaded post with the swivel stud on the end. Besides, I've heard the nuts are a PITA to remove with that hand "tool" they give you. And are an even bigger pain to reinstall. My rear butt stock already has a tab for a sling swivel, and the Vanguard 230 sling I just purchased came with 2 detachable sling swivels already installed. This is all I really need. I just want to be sure of the thread size. I just wish there was somewhere around here that stocked it.
