Uncensorship

I know a post was recently deleted.

In response, I want to say I am in no way fond of censorship. I do however want for the forum to be conducted professionally as it is viewed often by companies that "watch" what we're doing and saying for the purpose of providing better products and services that are needed, wanted, and desired.

I am in favor of an "Off Topic, Uncensored Content" subforum that is labeled properly and clearly enough that anyone who wishes to view or post content there knows what theyre getting into and can make an adult and educated decision. A subforum that will not be censored (as long as the content is lawful). I would still prefer it be tasteful, not pornagraphic. There are alreaddy established sites for that sort of thing.

Thanks for hearin me out folks.

Brad.

Yeah good idea because I was surprised to see all the women with tops on in a Girl of the Day thread in a Non Work Safe section. Either get rid of not work safe or make another section in my opinion. Once I looked through the girl of the day thread I quickly realized the intent of the postings were clothed women and that’s cool either way with me I don’t want to see porn but a topless now and then doesn’t offend me .As far as language in non work safe ?? But pics with captions? To me if it’s not safe for work that automatically tells me you probably don’t want some audiences seeing it so be weary. I could be wrong….I can keep from typing curse words and sound intelligent but in person if I couldn’t say @#*& or @)(* or @#$*)&$#@ amongst friends I wouldn’t have much to talk about LOL.

oli, I understand your point. True its the "non worksafe" section. Still doesnt mean folks anticipate seeing nudity and I feel thry at least deserve a heads up. That particular thread up to this point has been clothed women.

Heres something to consider. I mentioned companies viewing what we say and do. We also have sponsors. I feel we have to take into consideration whether or not our sponsors want to be associated with certain content. Our sponsors help to make it possible for our forum to continue to grow and be able to provide the enviroment we have now.

Having run a few forums myself, and participated in quite a few, it seems incumbent upon the forum owner(s) to set the tone for the forum. With that said, there is absolutely no way that a forum's owner(s) could anticipate every possibility and create a rule to deal with it.

What I've seen pretty consistently, even in forum sub-sections labeled not work-safe (NWS), is a "no nips, no lips" rule. Some forums allow links to such content but require a "35%" warning to be contained in the post so anyone who doesn't want to see nips or lips or open such a photo at work is forewarned.

Most forums also implement some sort of language filter that automatically changes words deemed unacceptable by the forum's owner(s) into something they deem less objectionable.

In practice, very little of this is truly about censorship. Mostly, it's about avoiding having your forum black-listed by most corporations' filtering software.

While I have no specific knowledge of the situation here, I'm hopeful that my past experience is useful.

I am still visiting the subforums since I am new to the site, and yesterday I got to the non-work forum with no idea what I would find. I then saw the girl of the day subforum and went there.
I was hoping to find a picture of a girl brandishing a shotgun. I did find one, but for the most part, they were just pix of girls that can be seen on other sites and in newstand magazines. And one (that I think was removed) showing more than I cared to see.
You can call me a prude, purist, or whatever, but I am not interested in seeing girls in various stages of undress (unless they have a shotgun in their hands). Frankly they all look the same to me - you know, plastic emblishments, thongs, and so on. I guess my idea of a "pin up girl" would be something on a calendar that could be hung openly in the workshop. There is a difference between tasteful and lust.
I have no problem with rigorous monitoring of unnecessary or tasteless entries, and no problem with banning a member that is attacking or attempting to put down another member for the sake of doing so.
I joined this site to learn, and to share my experiences with shooting shotguns, not to get into it with some mental midget with a chip on their shoulder (which, I'm happy to say I have not encountered here).

And that’s the challenge of doing a forum. Wide gamut of views on what’s right and wrong. For instance the Pics that make you LOL…….this one is a huge deal because what makes you laugh might not make me but you leave it wide open to everyone’s opinion on what’s funny….there are some twisted since of humors out there. If you want to keep it all business you have to remove these sections even with warnings in the rule section you will have a problem because people rarely read them.

Fellas, you all make good points. Toby is right in that it isnt entirely a censorship issue, but Mossberg Owners enjoys the support of the various entities that have helped us. We talk to as many female reps as we do men. I consider it professional courtesy considering mixed company.

Also, the point about labeling a section or subforum is well taken. Some folks may not read it at all.

As for the nudity, I'm sort of a prude too. To me a real pin up girl is the kind of pin up you would have seen soldiers painting on the side of planes in WWII. Tasteful and classy. Maybe another thread idea? I dunno. I would like to find tasteful pics of girls and shotguns too!

Being a mod has been easy so far. We really dont have any issues with anyone on here. Mossberg Owners has attracted a really good group of folks of all backgrounds and skill sets. There hasnt been any real form of censorship. The thread about the pics that make you lol. Point taken. The pic I posted I had to do some seaching to find one that didnt have language in it I didnt want to post. While I love the "motifakes" many contain language I consider distasteful and dont care to duplicate. Like the kid coloring... I dont talk like that in private conversation, I'm certainly not goin to repost it in a public forum.

So long story short from my perspective. I think we can monitor ourselves pretty well. I dont really think we need an "adult only" section and my preference would be to not have it.

I appreciate everyones input.

now that i have read these opinions here...i think they could be removed. and i have no problem with that.... the "pics that make you lol" i don't mind if it leaves. i can post in another forum where i got it from. i have no problem with that either...

also i like the no lips/nips rule, but i also would rather see girls with guns. so that's why i started to do that, but i ran into a slight problem. i ran out of good looking ( my opinion) girls. alot of them were just plain ugly. so idk..i don't need to post em....

this is sposta be a gun forum right? so i'm pretty sure we can probably keep it that way without to much fuss. especially if "we as group" want to continue to be members and want consideration from companies that have to do with firearms, ammo, and like products/services.

i for one will be here for the long haul because i'll never sell my 835. it's my first mossy! i could never do that.

i also like the members that are here. i really can't say that about the other forums i visit. and i look everywhere. the info , questions, and really the people here are genuine...and i like the openness of it as well. no ones here to bash anyone from what i have seen so far. i have read as far back as i could go on the posts here and found nothing of the sort.

the admin even ask what we want in a clothing style?!! that's unheard of on the big sites! well the ones im at. it's take it or leave it. not here....thats  to no end in my book!!!
