Here we go again! How did all those good 'ole boys in the Old Dominion allow this to happen!

I scratched VA off my list when they elected that POS governor.

I have a non res ccw for VA because my sister lives there.

I live mere minutes from the TN/VA border and we would drive to Kingsport/Bristol area regularly and do some of our major shopping (school clothes, some Christmas shopping, etc), but this decision will change that.

I have nothing against the police in VA, but if I can't protect myself and family, then they apparently don't want my money. I won't disarm for some apple butter po'dunk attorney general with complex issues.

I spent more time on the Tennessee side of Kingsport/Bristol border anyway and they still allow me to protect myself and family while I'm traveling and spending money, so I guess that's the side of town (border) I'll spend my money at when I go over there.

It was bad enough driving thru Nazi Maryland (for a mear 10 miles) to visit family in PA!

How long before the NRA pulls out of VA as its HQ?

Apparently Virginia is not for gun lovers.

Its these types of small defeats that just keep eating away at our rights.

I guess Virginia is now on my ever growing list of states to avoid.

We don't need to drive to VA anymore since the wife's parent are now gone. Glad I don't have to decide to follow the law or protect myself. Hated their "no radar detector" laws as well...

I hope the NRA finds a way to make the politicians pay a political price for it. It is becoming clearer and clearer that it is us vs. them, and the us is the NRA. Take care. Tom Worthington

They lost huge battles this year during elections. Democrats don't have a leg to stand on. So this is done in spite.

VA is due for a Republican AG......until then, I will carry as I travel through VA to destinations South when need be...my right IS the 2nd Amendment !!

Story Text :

RICHMOND — Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) plans to announce Tuesday that Virginia will no longer recognize concealed carry handgun permits from 25 states that have reciprocity agreements with the commonwealth.

The move also means Virginians with a history of stalking, drug dealing or inpatient mental-health treatment cannot obtain a permit in a state with comparatively lax laws and carry a handgun legally at home.

Herring said severing the out-of-state agreements can prevent people who may be dangerous or irresponsible from carrying a concealed weapon.

“To me, this is a commonsense step that can help make Virginians and our law enforcement officers safer by ensuring that Virginia’s laws on who can and cannot carry a concealed handgun are applied evenly, consistently, and fairly,” he said in a statement provided to The Washington Post.

“Our General Assembly has already identified who can and cannot conceal handguns in Virginia, and we cannot have that decision undermined by recognizing permits from other states with more permissive standards.”

Herring’s action could intensify a heated debate in the wake of rampant gun violence and cements his position as a liberal defender of gun control as he seeks a second term. A former state senator, Herring has raised the ire of conservatives for supporting same-sex marriage, abortion rights and immigration reform.
Del. Robert B. Bell III (R-Albemarle), a former state prosecutor, is the only Republican challenging him.

Gun rights advocates have criticized Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Herring and other Democrats for insisting on stronger gun laws after mass shootings in which the assailants obtained their weapons legally or suffered from mental illness. In October, McAuliffe banned firearms in state buildings, earning a rebuke from the National Rifle Association.

This year, Herring’s office began a review of reciprocity agreements Virginia has with 30 other states. Attorneys discovered that 25 of those states had concealed handgun permit regulations that were weaker than Virginia’s.

The State Police superintendent accepted Herring’s recommendation to sever agreements with those states, effective Feb. 1, according to Herring’s office.

The states are: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Agreements will remain with West Virginia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.

Virginia law lists 20 conditions that would disqualify a person from being issued a concealed carry handgun permit. They include anyone in the United States illegally, subject to a protection from abuse order, or convicted of various criminal charges from drunken driving to assault and battery.

Visitors to Virginia can still obtain a non-resident permit if they meet a separate set of standards set forth in the law.

Guess I'll be open carrying if I have to cross the line, just like all the locals in S/SW VA who despise all the libs up there in NOVA/DC.

Many people in Virginia weren't born there. The southwest part and the eastern part are entirely different regions. Stark different actually.

Dumbasses and libtards have been surrounding DC from all corners of the globe for a while now. The Folks on this end of the state are mostly just like you and me.

"Guys,

I'm ashamed of what our attorney general has done. I wrote an angry letter to his office this morning because I'm so incensed. In the meantime, I wanted to post a letter from the president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), Philip Van Cleave. Proud and patriotic Virginians are going to fix this silliness:

1) THOUGHTS FOR OUR FELLOW OUT-OF-STATE CHP HOLDERS

First, I d like to offer an apology to our fellow CHP holders from the 25 states that are about to lose recognition on February 1st.

All of you who have visited Virginia over the years have been exemplary and have not caused any problems within the Commonwealth.

This is NOT about you or anything you have done that was wrong.

It s about our Governor, Terry McAuliffe, and our Attorney General, Mark Herring, who were both elected by a very small margin, and are a great embarrassment to Virginians. Neither of these individuals are reflective of the attitudes toward liberty and freedom and the values that we cherish here in Virginia. In fact, both have been referred to as lawless by some of our own General Assembly members, many of who are going to work to fix the situation we find ourselves in.

Here in the Old Dominion, the anger of gun owners at what our Attorney General has done is palpable, and I cannot remember anything to match it. Herring and McAuliffe have endangered your lives when you travel here and our lives when we travel outside of Virginia. SIX MILLION CHP holders in half the country are affected!

And all this treachery was done as political payback to Michael Bloomberg for campaign contributions.

VCDL will be working to fix this problem from various angles and we will be trying to do so as expeditiously as possible. We want Virginia to be a welcoming state again for our fellow gun owners. We ultimately want to recognize ALL out-of-state permits.

Sadly, we understand if you decide you can t visit us until we can honor your permits. I d be a hypocrite if I said I would do so if the tables were turned.

HOWEVER, you do have a few options if you still want to come visit us:

1. Open carry is legal in Virginia - no permit required and you can open carry in most places in Virginia. Our police don't bat an eye. VCDL's website has a list of the places that you cannot carry. And, here s another good reason to open carry: McAuliffe and Herring HATE open carry. But, hey, it was THEIR brilliant idea to prohibit concealed carry, so they will have no choice but to get used to a whole lot more people open carrying in Virginia! ;-)

2. You can have a LOADED handgun in a CLOSED, but not necessarily locked, compartment or container in a vehicle. That includes a glovebox, console, and trunk as long as the compartment or container has some kind of latch. Optionally the loaded handgun can be in plain sight, on the seat or on the dashboard. Again, if concealed it MUST be in a compartment or container and nowhere else. Upon exiting the vehicle, the loaded handgun can be holstered and carried in plain view or you can unload the gun and put it in a carrying case.

3. You can get a Utah non-resident concealed handgun permit or you can get a Virginia non-resident concealed handgun permit. For the money and the fact that Virginia's permit has now been degraded by the Attorney General, I'd go for the Utah permit.

Whatever you do, please don't judge our great Commonwealth based on our current Governor and Attorney General.

2) WHAT CAN BE DONE?

VCDL is working to fix "Herring's Folly" from several angles.

a) A bill on VCDL s behalf has been introduced by Delegate Lee Ware and will be considered by the General Assembly, which convenes on January 14th (Lobby Day is on the 18th, BTW). This bill will change Virginia law to honor the CHPs from ALL states! Expect a matching bill to come from the Senate.

Yes, McAuliffe will probably veto it, but with your help, we will work to get as large a majority as possible to pass it. More on this in future legislative updates in January.

In the meantime, here is a link to the bill:

Bill Tracking - 2016 session > Legislation

b) The General Assembly's Power of the Purse can be used in different ways to help with this battle

c) We can possibly use the courts to override Herring and McAuliffe's actions

d) There is a petition you can sign. Yes, Herring will ignore it, but it will make a great PR item, when I say something like, X thousand of people signed a petition against Herring s actions. 7,283 have signed it so far and you guys are just learning about it! Here is the link:

d) Since Herring is making our lives miserable, we can return the favor. More on this next week. Oh, and Herring is going to run for Attorney General again in 2017. I ll bet he'll be surprised at just how good our memories can be!

3) DON T FORGET TO KEEP PUSHING PEOPLE YOU KNOW TO COMMENT ON MCAULIFFE S STATE-AGENCY BAN

As of 8 PM on December 23rd, 2,818 comments have been posted. All but a handful, if that many, are against McAuliffe's gun ban!

That's nice, but we can do better. Get this link into the hands of others you know and get them to leave a comments opposing the ban. If you haven t commented yet, now is a great time to do so. Click on the link and then click on Enter a comment to get started:

FINALLY - MERRY CHRISTMAS AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!

Just burns me up when I see an original colony go this way....no since of where they came from
The eastern establishment has long been more about the preservation of wealth and control of power than they have been about preserving the ideals of the Founders. Colleges like Yale, Harvard and Princeton regularly churn out the next generation of blue bloods. I don't think they care which party is in power as long as they do the bidding of Wall Street. I think that since he end of WW2 the Constitution has meant less and less to these people. I also think they are many of the people Eisenhower referred to when he mentioned the military industrial complex.

The VA legislature is planning to introduce legislation to undo what the governor has done with reciprocity. They are also going to try and remove the governors armed security detail.
Virginia’s radically anti-gun Governor and Attorney General were probably quite pleased with themselves when they spitefully severed concealed carry agreements with 25 states, including all but one of its neighbors.
They probably didn’t anticipate the backlash they’ve received, which includes calls to recall or impeach Attorney General Mark Herring, and pushes for legislation that will both strip elected officials of the ability to make such unilateral decisions, and get a little payback.
Herring’s announcement came three weeks before the start of the General Assembly session, which is controlled by Republicans. In November, a bill was filed that would require Virginia to recognize permits from other states. If approved, it would reverse Herring’s ruling.
Carrico said he’ll address the issue come January.
“A lot of the governor’s power is deferred to the General Assembly at that point and I’ll be getting with my collegues to circumvent everything this governor has done on this point,” he said. “I have a budget amendment that I’m looking at to take away his executive protection unit. If he’s so afraid of guns, then I’m not going to surround him with armed state policemen.”
It’s not lost on anyone that the biggest supporters of gun control are those who have other people with guns employed to protect them.
Billionaire Michael Bloomberg, the man personally bankrolling an otherwise dying gun control movement in the United States, is constantly surrounded by armed bodyguards (mostly poached from the NYPD, as I understand it), and I know for a fact that Moms Demand propagandist Shannon Watts has armed bodyguards, as I’ve seen them up close. Most other gun control supporters have public or private security, and a surprising number of them have concealed carry permits of their own.

Nothing gets someones attention like effing with their guns....oh wait......

Hopefully they can push something through.

Ironic how all these "leaders" that are anti gun wouldn't leave the house without their own gun or security detail. Once again, it never about the gun, it's about the control.
