Waiting......got it and some

Well, in a nutshell it is sweet so far. A little long and a little heavyish but feels very stout. Caps fit nice, turrets click very positive and are finger adjusters. The elevation turret cap is also an extra battery storage device.

The extended Aero Precision mount has just enough throw between the rings to allow me to keep the entire mount on the upper and still have a good eye relief, perfect when I snap it up. If I needed any more I would have to put the front of the mount on the handguard, get the SPR version……which came out after I bought the extended.

I have to go to the property to check on horses, I might 0 it to 100…..or save it all for tomorrow the original plan. I have a 400 yard spot picked out and am having a hard time finding 500 without a hill

I can always mow the lawn later……at least I got the garden ready so the wife shouldn’t be to upset when I am gone shooting upon her arrival home lol, she’s used to it by now.
I’ll try to get some shooting pics but I always get into shooting and forget but here are some initial pics

Is the reticle really that small when looking through it, or just because its a picture? Is it clear and easy to read?

super clear, its really hard to get a good pic of it.....the lines are thinner than they appear in the picture and the reticle is super crisp, after shooting it today I really like it. I only used to 100 yards today but tomorrow I'll get to use some of the holds tomorrow.

at 100 , sitting no real rest other than my pac so at 6x I was moving slightly.....not dead steady like you would get on a bipod or bags.....or prone

Still some really good shooting.

Glad you like the scope and happy to see it working out for you.

Let us know how the holdovers do. That's something I still need to check with the Fal. I think I got it covered, but I am waiting on a set of rechargeable batteries for my rangefinder so I can verify without a doubt that I'm shooting at exactly 100 (Did I ever mention that I truly suck at guessing distances correctly? And thus my need to have a decent rangefinder?)

thanks, I should be able to take it to at least 400 today. I can get pretty close pacing off yards but I'm using a range finder for this because I want to start out knowing exactly so I can really give the scope a fair chance. Hopefully the wind isn't too bad today. Snapping it up like a red dot with both eyes open works good, not quite red dot but totally doable.......it does hit about 6 inches low consistently at 10 yards but I guess that makes since as it has to be zeroed at 100 for the holds to be on. I actually was able to hit some odd and end small stuff at 200 messing around fairly trouble free.

just snapping up at 10 yards getting them off as fast as I could

So I found a 500 yard shot.
After an ever so slight windage adjustment it was dropping them center mass using the 500 yard hold.
I also hung the silhouette at 5’11” to test the ranging tig and it was dead on at 500. Also the width of the 500 yard cross hair was dead on for the width of the shoulders so the ranging is reliable for what it was designed to do.
I think if I had a bipod I could tighten the “group” and probably most of those head shots would be on, as it was I was prone shooting over my CamelBak.
The wind was gusty but never really sustained so couldn’t really try the wind holds. But none the less the majority of the shots, after two clicks right in , were good hits
I do not see a future for my red dot on my AR anymore…..at all.

Looking over the spotting scope, I circled the target

I have been following along on this. Very nice shooting Oli and I'm glad that you are liking it. Looks like a nice place to shoot. Thanks for the updates.

Thanks Mike, that's a loooong shot for around here. My red dot would cover the entire stand at that distance and hitting would be lucky at best.

Red dots were never designed or intended to be used at long distances.

They were designed to provide (or be) a fast reference of the aiming point at very short to not very long distances.

For awhile they made me keep a red dot on my weapon at work, and use it to qualify at 300m. At that range, the red dot is bigger than the target. I'd have to turn it off and flip up my BUIS.

I kept it in my weapon, but unless I was patrolling or entering a building, it stayed off with those trusty BUIS up.
