Got Wood?

omg. omg. omg. omg. I'm like a kid in the candy store!! Nitesite and Ttutt sent me each a box of wood and I've been in my shop goin through it all. Slicing off a thin piece of them and sanding em down, applying some tung oil, and drooling over it all! Holy shnickeys! I love the lignum !! that green is spectacular!

Thank you both for the kind offerings. I appreciate it so much! You Rock!

okay rip here are the pictures. i used a product called hoodbleach. it is a 2 part bleaching system. it is way better than oxalic acid at bleaching out the wood. but it is also a lot harsher on the wood.

here is the photo of my sks before i got started... the wood was dark red brown like most yugoslavian sks's are.

i didn't take pictures of the actual process of bleaching the wood because i didn't want the chemicals getting on my phone so here is the final product.

i'll let the wood dry out for a few days and then rub a light finish on just to pop the grain. i'll post the final pictures sometime next week

Thanx for the kudos guys....the only thing that I'm worrying about is that they fit.
Please fit. Please.

They are fairly dry. I'll wrap em up in some paper towel and bubbles and a box to ship them this week.
I'm also including a little thank you gift for waiting so long for them...Gratis.

cheers

Dude, you ROCK!

I can't wait to get them installed and take some pics. Have I told you lately that I'm your biggest fan? :D

Nah, these are goin on the Vertec...

The cheap plastic factory grips bug me. The Vertec models have been discontinued for a long while and nobody makes wood grips for them.......until now... :D

Im working on a light colored version next.

Thanx oli, sniper and ross.....

And the thank you gift came out sweet...!

You're most welcome.

Brother, if you decide you need more Mahogony just ask! Sorry about the crappy job of cutting them. I'll do a lot better next time if you decide you want more.

I think I'm set for a little while at the moment Nitesite. Thank you again!!

I found out what it was....Micarta. This stuff has an interesting texture to it. I'm trying out the checkering kit on it now. It is easy to work with......

well i started out with a nice light color for a stain on the sks. it didn't turn out quite how i wanted it so i opted to go with a darker color to pop the grain out. well here is the stained product. i will put the poly coat on tonight high gloss. again not my best work but this peticular sks wood has been a nightmare. the last one i did came out so good!.

That looks flippin sweet!! I love the dark grained lines. I think it's going to look just great once you get a few coats of poly on it.
