Hello all,
Just stumbled across this site a few days ago. Thought I'd say hi and show what I just did in the shop this afternoon. Took a 28" VR barrel from a Maverick 88 and cut it to 18.5", removed the VR, drilled/tapped for a bead and re-blued. It's nowhere near perfect but it's my bedroom 500 so it's "close enough" for me.
Milling off the VR posts.
Sanding and polishing the barrel after the millwork is done.
Locating and drill/tap for front bead sight. Remember the original bead was on the vent rib, and several inches further out that is now, um, missing. For anyone who uses the same locator/drilling jig, I was too distracted by taking pics and didn't even realize I had the bushings in upside-down. Realized it as soon as I went to tap the threads.
Barrel has been re-blued and installed. Front sight also. The blued barrel doesn't match the black receiver and tube, but it will mostly be hidden by the head shield that just isn't installed yet.
Cheers!
Chad
