500c 20 ga. SKEET

AutoCycle

Copper BB
Looking for any history info on a shotgun I purchased from an auction.

500c Mossberg

20 ga w/plain barrel. Decent walnut but not great, no sn.

Barrel is marked something like this (don't have in front of me).
20 ga. 26" Improved Cylinder 2 3/4 or 3 Inch Shells
SKEET Made in USA

It's 26" plain with only front bead.
Guessing it's mfg. in 50's or 60's (don't know anything about the 500 series other than they are very popular).

Is this an unusual barrel because it has no rib?
Was there a 20ga. Skeet model produced at one time?
Possible date of mfg?
Was there a 20 ga ribbed SKEET barrel made with a rib?

Many thanks for any info you may have.

Welcome to the forum from NY and congrats on your "new to you" Mossy.

It's pre 1968 with no serial number.

Any chance you can post a pic or two?

I'm an oldster & not too tech inclined but will try maybe tomorrow to get some photo's posted.
thanks for the welcome.

thanks for the welcome.

If you run into trouble don't worry there are plenty of good people here to help you out. ;)

There are plenty of both vent rib and plain barrels.

The "supposed" advantage of a barrel with a rib is to reduce mirage from a hot barrel.

walnut, made in the US, pre-1968 from the lack of serial number, fairly normal.

Congratulations on the purchase. Let us know how it does.

Attempting to attach photo's of my project gun. If this works I will try to add more.

Ran out of time when attempting photo's. Is there a 3 photo limit or didn't I do it correctly?

This 500c is an auction purchase. Picked up 2 Moss. at auction a year ago & hope to work on them when I get time.

The other is a 46b (I think). 22lr target w/iron sights.
Needs some parts but has the best trigger of all my target guns. Crisp no creep.

Will be spending more time in this forum when I get started with projects.

Thanks for all comments!

Looking forward to more pics of your Mossbergs. (Yes there is a three pic limit per post) :)
