590a1 question about 20 inch and 18 barrel.

hello Lugi, not sure what you are referring to. did you swap out barrles?

you have two 590a1's correct? is the 18.5 barrel a breacher?

if not and they both fit the receivers should be nothing to worry about.

Yes...two 590a1's. The writing on the barrel on my 20in barrel says 590 the 18in also has the writing but doesn't say 590 on the barrel like the 20 inch barrel. The model number is 51517.

that's the correct model for the 18.5" 590A1. like i said,nothing to worry about.

Lugi, I just bought the 51517 and also have the 51660 and 51663. The two latter have 20" barrels and do say 590. The 18.5" does not. Worries me a little, too.

Mossberg doesn't make an 18.5" 590.

The 18.5" heavy barrels used on the 'A1 models are also used in the 500 line, so they are not marked "590"...

Mossberg offers shotguns with the following designations:
500
590
590A1

The 590 series does not have a model with an 18.5" barrel as LES noted. The 590A1 does as you noted. I have the 51411 A1 and love it.

Some of Mossberg's offerings are a little confusing (the website isn't the greatest either!) but if you live on here a little while it all becomes more clear.

The heavy wall barrel is obviously thicker just glancing at the muzzle end. If you know someone or can ask nicely at your local shop to hold yours next to a typical 500 model and do a side by side muzzle comparison you will see what I mean.

Parked barrel is a heavy walled ghost ring barrel and the tan cerakoted one with the tritium bead is a typical 500 barrel. Its the only picture I know of on the web that shows the two profile muzzles side by side like that and a good reference pic.

Correct, the 18.5 inch barreled models of the 590A1 series are not stamped 590 on the barrels but they are honest to goodness heavy wall profiled barrels.

Nah man....dont worry, I forgot what they told me when I called (its been awhile)but what they told me made me feel better, to get some piece of mind.... give them a call.
