CC info

Yeah, there have been a couple of newspapers here in OH (Cleveland area) that have done that. One time it ended up with an ambush/fatality at a CC owner's home. Thugs waited for him. F'ing BS...and the newspaper defended the practice by quoting the 1st Amendment and public safety...they denied any culpability...

I think the link is out of date at least as far as MS is concerned. There is a bill that was recently introduced that would require publication of this information, but our AG says it ain't gonna happen.

can you post the info Gunny ? I don't care if I live there or not I really don't like any of that no matter where it is.

OA, I had no idea this has resulted in an ambush....wow that sucks

There's several anti-gun bills that have been introduced this session but here's one that pertains: http://www.mississippigunnews.com/missi ... un-owners/

On our side is most of the legislature and our Gov and AG.

“Any bills that attempt to track ammunition, seize weapons or otherwise infringe upon the right of Mississippians to keep and bear arms are a frontal assault on the Second Amendment. I will not stand by and allow gun owner rights to be trampled in this state, and I will immediately veto such bills if they reach my desk.”

In addition to the Governor’s statement, Speaker of the House Philip Gunn also voiced his stand against any legislation that would destroy second amendment rights on his Facebook page when he posted yesterday,

“The government does not have the right to know how many guns or how much ammo I possess. The bills that are being pushed in the Mississippi Legislature forcing registration of ammo are dead on arrival in the House. We will always stand on the side of the constitutional rights of gun owners.”

so they are working on getting rid of it, that's good

what's been going on with the open carry thing ?

It's not a matter of public record here. Only police are supposed to have access to that info.

There was some "news agency" in NY who tried a FOIA to obtain the records from a nearby police agency, but since there is no public database, cannot comply even if they wanted.

Also, carry is 100% legal here, and often exersized. No permit required.

Recently, they even added an amendment to the State Constitution that was voted BY THE PEOPLE in a recent election that hunting and fishing is a Constitutional Right.

Not saying that the only purpose to own a gun is to hunt, but still strengthens our rights here nonetheless.

Gotta love it,

SUCK IT!!

I haven't heard of any problems with open carry since the issue was settled, but I do know that there are some businesses and individuals who get a little puckered up about it. I think it's just a matter of getting comfortable. For example, some banks have the No Guns sign posted, some don't.

It kinda breaks down by metro/bad neighborhoods vs. rural/knowing your neighbors; which tells me that it's not a gun issue at all, but rather is a societal issue. I suspect it's the same in other parts of the country.

NY had an open foil list since forever. After the newtown shooting a local paper did a google map of handgun permit holders in Westchester, NY. Didn't go over too well in that the local editor had her house, address, name, and where her kids went to school plastered on social media in rebuttal.

The list is now…. somewhat restrictive. You have to sign an opt out form but that doesn't guarantee no access to a foil as the ppwk takes weeks or months to process.

I'm saving up religiously the next 5 years to leave NYS. I'm done with this place, high taxes, draconian laws in all respects and no representation at the government level.

one of these days that state is going to be sorry it ran off all the good guys

Oli, I agree.

Have you seen the tv commercials asking people to locate their businesses and such to NY?

I do not really see that as funny, but it's happening.

Not only in NY, but other states are losing people daily.

CNSNews.com) – New York State accounted for the biggest migration exodus of any state in the nation - representing a loss of $45.6 billion in income.

In 2013, 60 percent of its customers who crossed the Connecticut state line were leaving the Nutmeg State, while just 40 percent were relocating here.

well that sounds better, now I question the entire list though

It takes time for stuff to show up on sites like this one, or the NRA-ILA site, etc. Especially this time of year when a lot of new bills are being introduced in State legislatures. We're getting several new bills in MS both pro and con. The 2 pro gun rights major ones are SB 2798 and HB 314:

Today Mississippi Senator Melanie Sojourner (R-District 37) proposed Senate Bill 2798. This bill commonly known a preemption/enforcability law would preempt all local gun ordinances. The State Legislature declares in this bill they “occupying the whole field of regulation of firearms and ammunition, including the purchase, sale, transfer, taxation, manufacture, ownership, possession, storage, and transportation thereof.”

This law would declare all local ordinances on firearms “null and void.”

It is critical that you contact your State Representative, as well as the members of the House Judiciary B Committee, where the bill has been referred, and urge them to STOP THE PROLIFERATION OF ILLEGAL FIREARMS ORDINANCES across the state of Mississippi by PASSING HB 314.

It may just be speculation, Oli. But the ambush at his workplace as he arrived (I said home, I was wrong) just a week after the publication of names is awfully suspect. Apparently they started shooting right away. He killed one before dying. How did they know he was armed? The newspaper continues to try to get the names and publish them citing public safety (are your neighbors armed?) and a way to scare up support for firearm restrictions. Cleveland is a hotbed of anti-gun legislation.
