My green laser sidesaddle appeared to be dead.... again. Crimson Trace replaced my original after it died, and the customer service was great.
Fast-forward eight months or so and I try to turn it on and it's dead. I picked up four more 2016 button cells when I was in Home Depot. Later the same evening I installed them and no amount of mashing the buttons, flipping the slide switch, or turning the batteries around would get the green to come out the laser hole.
I opened another ticket with Crimson Trace, then started searching the web. It turns out that the Duracell batteries I bought have some sort of bitter flavored coating to keep the kids from chewing on them, and that coating doesn't play well with the sidesaddle.
I buffed them (much more than I thought would be necessary) with some 220 grit sandpaper and the laser works again.
So two useful tips- don't buy the Duracells, and if you do; 220 grit works to get the coating off.
