DC Navy Yard shooter

Been all over the news this morning. 10 casualties reported so far. Shooter still on loose.

AT LEAST 10 SHOT — with 'multiple fatalities' — at Washington Navy Yard at a building housing the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters, a Navy Yard official says. There are conflicting reports on the number of victims, amid reports that a suspected gunman is barricaded and that there may be more than one shooter.

Reporters getting airtime are clueless and useless.

I have flipped through both cnn and fox and they're neither worth watching.

One lady reporter on fox was warned about speculating about what type of gun was being used when even people who were involved could not identify the type of weapon and just knew that he had a gun and heard 3 or 4 shots then the reporter said (loose paraphrasing) that it must be an ar15 because it is a civilian replica of an m16 because it has 3 round burst capability.

CNN headline read: "At least 7 schools on lockdown gunman believed barricaded @ naval yard."

I haven't been inside the Navy Yard for over 5 years, but the last time I was there you had to be cleared way before you got thru security area. As a visitor/contractor you could only go thru 1 gate and you had to wait for your escort then go thru vehicle check then see what you had on your person. As a contractor I have been in most of the high security areas around DC and the Navy yard was at that time very secure compared to others.

Yeah, the reporting is a joke.

They don't know how many shooters or how many victims yet, but I've already heard them report three different weapons used. One report gave the standard "AR-15 military style assault weapon", another said the DCPD officer was shot with a double barreled shotgun, and yet another report said the shooter was armed with an AR-14. That must be a new one...

People hurt or dead....gun involved....

That's pretty much the only facts you will hear.

Well, obviously an AR-14 is a smaller gun than an AR-15. 14 is less than 15 right? Maybe they meant Mini-14, which is really tiny - fit in yer pocket tiny. ;)

Seriously tho, if there are 2 or more shooters involved in this, it's not likely it's just some disgruntled butt head. More likely would be some Muslim terror thing a'la Fort Hood.

One is an asshole, three is a group of assholes - how did they conspire and who knew this was going to happen?

One is hard to track. If there were three, there are definitely signs that should have been seen.

This will revive all the gun control shit. Now you won't be able to own a gun if anybody you know owns one.

Surprised all the guns they had didn't evaporate when they crossed the river into DC with how effective their gun laws are.

This type of shit makes me sick for all sorts of reasons, most of which are they way that the families of the victims will be cast aside instead of being cared for as appropriate.

That sounds like my Mini 14 except when I have the 2000 round drum of heat seeking rounds attached to it. Then I have to use a one point sling. ;)

This is so sad and made even worse by the media and the left who can't wait to start the anti gun playbook. It's like a race to see who can lie to the public the fastest.

Now saying only one shooter, who served overseas with medals.

FBI asking for tips. Pics on their website. I am not going to paste the pics here.

This is just disheartening. Makes me sick that they still think gun free zones work.

Why the hell is a Military Installation a Gun Free Zone and Why the hell do we even need a Civilian Law Enforcement response at a Military Installation. I'm sorry as a Veteran having to ask these questions PISSES me off.

My apologies for yelling, I seem to be the only one except a few here asking those questions

Good points MrDig.

Diane Feinstein makes me want to puke. The victims of the horrific shooting aren't even buried yet, the facts aren't in and she's using it for political gain. The trouble with her and the other wicked witch of the west (Pelosi) are that their idea of thoughtful debate is to disarm the law abiding and ignore the root causes.

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein is renewing her call for new gun-control laws because of Monday’s deadly Navy Yard shooting.

“When will enough be enough?” Feinstein said in a statement Monday evening.

“Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country,” she said. “We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.”

Yep.

I thinks she's about as low as a person can get.

She's not the only one - every anti in the country was spewing the same shit before the smoke even cleared.

Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton speaking about the Washington, D.C. Navy Yard shooting: “There is no indication this was a terrorist event. But I hope we all understand that with all these guns loose in the society, it doesn’t take a terrorist to do what was done here today.”

Yep, all those guns grew legs and are running wild in the streets.

And so it starts again...how much is the anti-gun groups paying these guys to go off the deep-end just to advance their agenda?

I don't think it's really so much as a payment per se.

But money in the campaign fund to keep them in power so they can rule over people.

That's what really fuels those kind of people.

...and the mass shooting yesterday is the fault of the gun and we must punish lawful gun owners? I have read books on mass shooters and they all have mental health problems:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. law enforcement officials are telling The Associated Press that the Navy contractor identified as the gunman in the mass shootings at the Washington Navy Yard had been suffering a host of serious mental issues, including paranoia and a sleep disorder. He also had been hearing voices in his head, the officials said.

Aaron Alexis, 34, had been treated since August by the Veterans Administration for his mental problems, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the criminal investigation in the case was continuing. The Navy had not declared him mentally unfit, which would have rescinded a security clearance that Alexis had from his earlier time in the Navy Reserves.

Family members told investigators that Alexis was being treated for his mental issues.
