I will be bear hunting this weekend. I plan on carrying my 500c. I may use my bow as a primary if my shoulder will allow it but will still be carying the 500.
Camera mount was a bust. The mount held up great but the camera broke. The recoil ripped the tripod mount from the base of the camera. Lightweight plastic worked ok on my bow, not so good on a gun. I need to reevaluate the design or get a lower profile camera.
I have pics of the finished mount, I'll post them tomorrow when I can get them off my phone.
The female threads are part of a small block that is sandwiched between the front and back cover. The covers actually separated. It's not so much the threads itself but how it's mounted. It's a cheap handheld HD camera. I may try to make some type of brace for it but I'm not sure it's worth it at this point
Kodak - tough and simple - nice one. MikeD, you're on the right track for sure. I'm going to try and get the camera on the underside, out of sightline. I have an old cam mount from an SCCA car project that I pulled off the shelf yesterday and started fiddling with. Shock (even with 5.56) does concern me. No solution yet but I'mooking at synthetic bushings or rubber to isolate or absorb - we'll see...
My first attemp at a bow cam was actually a Kodak digital picture/video camera. The recoil of my compound bow would cause the camera to reset itself. They just don't make them like they used to.
Get working we need some pics!!!! I love the DIY stuff. LOL
Ouch - I can see how the taller camera would get more leverage and a12g is tough stuff! I'm heading to a shotgun match this weekend and will grab pics of anyone with a solid setup. The remote cams are getting more affordable and I do see some guys off gun with hat cams etc.
cheap and simple solution to keep the handheld hd cam together.
Less than a sheet of kydex.
If you heat a 1/4 sheet of kydex and wear leather gloves, you can wrap the kydex around the bottom of the camera.
There are a lot of places that sell kydex by the sq foot sheet for hobby knife makers and the likes.
If you can make a kydex pouch that will just cover the bottom section of the camera that it can slide into, that may be enough to keep the halves together and strengthen the camera body at the same time.
I suppose for that matter, wrapping it in tape may would accomplish the same thing.
