Mossberg 500 stock bolts are not Grade 8

I took a Mossberg 500 full stock bolt out of my older wood stock and the flat screw head was rounded like it was made of clay.

I just ordered two different new Mossy 500 stocks (12-Youth and 14 LOP). The 14” LOP Mossberg OEM stock came today with a black Grade 5 bolt; and with a black washer & black locking washer.

I went to a local fastener store and got a three other options: 5.5” Length, 18 TPI thread 5/16” Dia.

Hex Bolt, marked LE (Lake Erie) made in USA
American SAE Grade 8 (6 marks), Yellow Zinc Dichromate Finish.

Allen Head Bolt, Grade 8+ (per rep), marked YFS, black oxide
YFS is the Fang Sheng Screw Company, made in Taiwan

Hex Bolt, Stainless, these marked “S30400-THE” are from a large manufacturer in Taiwan, Tong Hwei Enterprises, and are of 304-grade stainless

I ordered also three stainless washers and three stainless locking washers.

The local fastener clerk looked at the Mossberg OEM flat head screwdriver head bolt and said that it is way too soft to be grade 8. To me it looks softer than a grade 2.

Since I had it I used the made in USA yellow zinc Grade 8 bolt. I think I will pick up two more. :D
