Duracoat and paint and stuff will work on wood.
prep is key though.
On wood, you really need to get down below the factory polyuerathane or lacquer.
Using very fine sandpaper. This not only makes it smooth, but also gives the paint some tooth to stick to.
Also, sand WITH the grain and not against it.
