It was a pretty amazing documentary about the evolution of the alphabet.
It looks like we came from a Hellenized version of a Semitic Alphabet based on the actual hieroglyphic characters from which the Egyptian language was constructed.
And while a character in the Egyptian hieroglyphics could mean many many things based on context and “punctuation”, which made it a flexible language, it also had hundreds of symbols which were difficult to learn.
Now we have the same facility in a smart phone and it remembers all of the symbols for us and we just have to look them up.
It was just making me wonder if there is an online translator of ancient Egyptian?
