The Affordable Arms Act

A progressive FFL I've corresponded with asked on our local gun forum, "Can you guys explain why there is so much opposition in the US to universal healthcare coverage? . . ."

Here's my answer:

- - The Affordable Arms Act (an analogy) - -

1) We start with the Second Amendment to the Constitution which acknowledges a citizen's right to keep and bear arms.

2) Congress and the President (probably not this one) decide that the Federal government must provide access to firearms for all citizens since all citizens have the right to keep and bear arms, so they pass the "Affordable Arms Act."

3) The "Affordable Arms Act" states that the firearm everyone will be required to buy is a Henry Golden Boy Coal Miners Edition (a .22-caliber rifle decorated with graceful 24-kt. gold-plated engravings and a MSRP of $899.95) because it has all of the legally required capabilities. Citizens can buy no other firearms (in keeping with the "level playing field" concept), and all currently owned firearms must be relinquished no more than 30 days after the new law goes into effect. Since minors can not purchase firearms, parents must purchase a Henry Golden Boy Coal Miners Edition for each child at birth and then keep it locked away until he or she reaches adulthood.

4) In view of the fact that not all citizens can afford to buy a Henry Golden Boy Coal Miners Edition, a portion of everyone else's taxes will go to providing each less fortunate citizen with a Henry Golden Boy Coal Miners Edition through a new entitlement program called "ArmsAid." If a proposal to require employers to pay for each employee's Henry Golden Boy Coal Miners Edition can not be passed, each employer must pay a fine of $2000 for any employee of his found to not own a Henry Golden Boy Coal Miners Edition within 30 days of the new law going into effect. Anti-gun groups are labelled "selfish racists" for trying to keep guns away from minorities, and the fact that the CEO of Henry Repeating Arms serves on the Presidential Firearms Task Force is purely coincidental.

5) Since some citizens will want to shoot their Henry Golden Boy Coal Miners Edition on a regular basis, the President signs an Executive Order requiring each citizen to purchase exactly 100 rounds (no more, no less) of 22LR (low velocity copper jacketed round nose only, dangerous hollow point rounds are illegal) every month. Again, those who can't afford ammo can get it without charge through any FFL that accepts "ArmsAid" reimbursement. Ammunition manufacturers enthusiastically endorse the new law and fund a major "educational" campaign supporting it once they learn about the related Executive Order.

The Americans I know just don't appreciate being told what they must do with their wages, savings, investment income, et cetera. Hope this helps.

I really liked your analogy too. I would love to hear Nancy Pelosi say "You won't know what kind of gun you will be forced to own until after we vote to pass the legislation."

Why don't people like Obamacare?...it stinks of socialism, will cost more for less benefits, was all back door deals they never fixed any problems and the individual mandate will soon be labeled un-Constitutional.
