The meaning of S.U.R.V.I.V.A.L

After seeing this part of forum I remembered that I have a book,bought in 1984,in Spanish language but translated from another book.
The original title:The U.S. Armed Forces survival manual,published by Times Book,New York,1980.
The book uses the word "SURVIVAL"like an acronym.Let´s go:

Size up the situation
Undue haste makes waste
Remember where are you
Vanquish fear and panic
Improvise
Value living
Act like the natives
Learn basic skills about survival

Probably,there is more people at forum who knows it.

After writting it,I have seen in this forum a post called "U.S.Army Survival Manual" with a PDF document talking about this.Sorry.
