This is just oiled to shine it up for the pics. It's actually much duller in person. I'm considering some kind of wax for the flat blue finish. Took the high gloss off the wood, too.
Believe me, if I could think of a way to make a wood pistol brace, I would! I'm considering replacing the buffer tube with a nice walnut dowel finished to match, but that's a lotta work for 2 more inches of wood. (Get your mind outa the gutter!)
It really is very freeing to not worry about scratches or dents in a new gun. It's already one of my favorites. I did a little action bar tweeking, and polished up some of high shine spots in the action. Made a big difference.
Six, there is a product made in England (available online) called Renaissance Wax Polish that might give you the satin finish you are looking for on the blued parts. It for sure will keep the metal from rusting.
Yup, just ordered some. We'll see how it goes. It was difficult at first. You know as well as I that a new gun gets babied. Taking steel wool to one goes against every fiber of your being!
But now, I'm not worried. It goes every time we go to the sandpits!
Playing around with replacing the standard AR steel buffer tube with a walnut dowel finished to match.
Ignore the diagonal grain, it's a pic of a table leg I found online. I'd use a straight walnut dowel with tight, straight grain. (The brace is a Tailhook).
