I too am most disappointed in about 56% of Americans. Primarily those who voted for what they can get.
Why does it feel like there are two seperate and distinct Americas and we're the minority?
Here's my take on this election and I'm gonna be full disclosure here:
I was born and raised in Germany to a German mother and an Army dad. I spent 15 years of my childhood in Germany and wouldn't trade it for the world. There are some things that Germany/Europe do a little better than the U.S...mainly education and legal drinking age
All jokes aside, I wouldn't change a thing about my life and I don't regret growing up in Europe. But one of the biggest things I learned were the unique differences between the United States and other countries... many of which I didn't recognize until I was an Adult and had my own family.
I think a good portion of the 56% that voted for Obama were the younger crowds, those who rely on the benifits of the current Gov't. I once was a die hard Democrat  all for equality, for Gov't programs to help the "poor and less fortunate" and for equal opportunity for everyone... regardless of your accomplishments/ characters.
But guess what, once I was a productive member of society... i.e. not living at home, paying my own bills, providing for my family... I realized that many of the ideals I had believed in actually were counter productive to my success. I learned that it takes work to accomplish a goal, sometimes at the cost of sacrificing some luxuries.
The problems lies with those that haven't "grown up", those that haven't had to care for anything but themselves. But I don't believe that our current society teaches responsibility anymore, and that starts at a VERY young age, and until we can fundamentally change that "taking/receiving" attitude, you won't see a change in this countries political climate.
I can't tell what the future holds, and I hope we can pull together to come back to some of the principles this country was founded on, and when the time calls for it, fight (figuratively :?: ) for those principles.
