Re: Mossberg 500 forend difference?
I still need to measure my tube to make sure it is the right one but is there another piece I need to lock in the forend. The factory wood forend has a threaded cap that locks the forend in place. The new forend from Tapco doesn't come with one and the factory one doesn't fit. The forend moves all over the place now as it is. Any ideas what I am missing?
MikeD said:You will have to measure the forend tube on your gun to see which size you will need.
If you have the 7 5/8" tube you should be good to go for any forend, you will just need the spacer if you get the shorter one.
If your gun has the shorter tube you will be limited to only those that will fit the 6 1/2" tube.
You will have to check the specs on the one you wish to buy to determine if it will fit what you have. This may involve a call to the vendor if it is not specified in the ad or wherever you saw it. The overall length of a forend is not dependant on the size of the tube. Some are longer and overlap the receiver a bit and some are shorter and more easily allow the use of a side sadle shell holder.
If you have a pinned forend you will have to buy a new tube. I'm not familiar enough with exchanging parts on these to know if a longer tube will fit on a gun originally equipped with the short tube. I know the people at Havlin can answer that for you.
